I Always Wanted to Be an Audio Engineer

I spent a lot of time looking at music production schools in an effort to figure out how to become an audio engineer. I’ve always had an interest in audio and always wanted to get into the career field, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it. It’s not the usual career track most people take. I talked about doing it a lot when I was in my teens, but then got distracted by other things and worked a lot of low paying jobs before deciding I wanted to make something of my life. That meant finding out about this career.

I don’t know how they did it back in the old days, but I doubt anyone went to school to be an audio engineer. I suspect the reason why is that the technology was pretty basic back then. All it probably took was sitting in with someone who knew what they were doing and a few months later you would know everything there was about the topic. Then you likely passed that on to someone new. Sort of on the job training, if you will. That doesn’t work these days because the technology has become so complex.

So I looked around online to see if I could find a school that was serious about teaching people what they really needed to know. I didn’t want to have to take out tens of thousands of dollars in student loans to learn how to do this job. What I really wanted is a program with a lot of hands on work and less theory about how it all works. I’m someone who learns by doing, so that’s important. I found just the school that worked for me and they seem like a really top notch place. I’m looking forward to landing a cool job, too.
